Dairy Dynamics Welcomes You
Since 1996 Industrious Machinery has been designing and importing a range of equipment for the small farm industry and home use. This range of equipment has become so popular that the new company Industrious Dairy Dynamics was brought into existence to service this fast-growing industry.
Over the past 15 years Dairy Dynamics has expanded the available range of equipment and today has well over 2000 units in operation within Southern Africa. Upping their game in the bid to become international leaders in regards to small scale dairy equipment supply, Dairy dynamics has now developed a unique range of complete process and packaging plants starting from 50 liters upwards.
Now the small entrepreneur can deliver professional milk at the lowest possible capital outlay while keeping production costs at minimal by utilizing our range of multi-function units with one person processing and packaging as much as a 1000 liters per day.
We keep it simple and cost effective by making one piece of equipment do the work of 2 or 3 others. This approach not only works for ease of operation but keeps outlay costs to a minimal as well as freight and export costs.
Our Outlook is simple:
How can we serve your interest best.
The Dairy Dynamics team looks forward to be of service to you and wish you the same prosperity in your ventures that they have enjoyed over the years.
Making money with Milk
A Changing World
30 years ago the big corporations processed basically all the produced milk. Today this is no longer so as controlling costs is not so easy in a large corporation and small entrepreneurs, doing the calculations, realized the opportunity and started up milk processing plants.
Yet again this production sector is seeing change due to the current economic situation. Farming is not as easy as it used to be and more and more small farmers across the world are starting to process their own milk production and either sell the relevant products on directly to the end user or find small outlets for their products.
Mini, growing into small scale dairy processing plants, in all likelihood, will become the norm in the future as this is the only growth sector left within the dairy industry. The dairy industry is unique in that it is the only farming enterprise that allows you to have an income out of your production while at the same time, growing a pension fund. It also allows for the creation of an independent income opportunity within the family structure as a family member can come to specialize in a sector of the production range such as a unique yogurt or cheese not readily available within their area of the country they find themselves within. Produce a unique enough product and one can have a small gold mine, even far from the closest town or centralized hub as word of a good product spreads.
The current opportunity within the dairy sector in South Africa.
Today, professional, low start-up cost equipment exists that allows for clean, good milk to be delivered by the small farmer and with rising costs, everybody is looking for a way to save on the costs of living. The greatest gain for the farmer would be to deliver directly to the end user and the clever thing to do is to keep operations small and controlled in order to ensure that the best possible product is delivered at all times as it takes only one bad experience to lose a customer forever.
The best is to create one's own market and once you have this market, you can always add other products if you are so inclined. The key lies in having your own market as it is the safest. With electronic banking today no money needs to change hands on delivery and many clients may prefer to pay for a month's delivery in advance when payday comes. It is quite possible that door to door delivery may become a returning reality with key products, providing the supplier is trustworthy and delivers a good product as there exists a longing for the good old days when things were less rushed and more social. The customer may start to look forward to the daily delivery if conducted on a personal basis of friendliness and goodwill.
The Dairy Queen Complete Dairy Production unit
Unique in the world, ideal for small beginnings
This unit was originally developed as a butter churn as there is no small scale churn on the market available that can churn, extract residual butter milk, wash and salt and then extract the residual salted water from the butter. With this unit it takes just over 6 minutes to churn the cream into butter and around another 45 minutes to wash and remove water, ready to pack. In essence 5kg of butter can be produced every hour or 7kg every hour and a half. Compliment to this unit, when used as a churn, is a butter block extruder that can either press out a continuous block of butter, to be cut to length or fill into a tub.
However due to the basic design of the Dairy Queen, this unit is now being developed as a full dairy production unit that can be modular upgraded with attachments to become a pasteurizing unit as well as a churn. With attachments can additionally be used to produce cheese, yogurt, amaas or pasteurize milk.
With ice water available, the unit can serve as a milk cooling tank to cool incoming milk down.
- The milk can be homogenized with a circulating homogenizing pump to prevent cream and milk separation, pasteurized and then cooled down and bottled directly out of the unit with available attachments, best way to ensure good quality pasteurized milk.
- For making cheese, a rotary curd cutter and overhead clip-on cheese press can be added.
- For making quality Yogurt, a circulating homogenizing pump can be added to improve smoothness of the product and a filling unit can be attached for direct filling out of the unit.
In essence, this modular, expandable unit allows for low start-up capital with room for expansion into a multi-product small scale dairy set-up that allows for multi-tasking being possible, saving time and money. We are also working on the possibility of modular expansion of the unit to increase capacity to 100lt.
We are now also in the process of converting 500lt chest freezers to serve a dual function. We create 2 compartments, one for ice-water and the other to serve as a 250/300lt milk cooling section. A milk pre-cooler can be attached to the unit due to ice-water available. The Chest Freezer is lined with a S/steel top allowing the unit to serve as a production table or work bench at the same time.
How The Numbers Crunch
Total life stock costs: R40 000.00
Current start-up costs for a mini plant capable of processing up to 100lt per day:
Minimum required, Prices ex Vat:
1 x Mobile Single Milker @ R9250.00
(Milks 10 to 12 cows per hour)
1 x 50lt Batch @ R14 850.00
(For milk pasteurizing, yogurt/amasi/cheese production)
1 x Bottle Filler attachment @ R8 530.00
(To fill milk and cream bottles)
1 x Homogenizing type Pump, @ R 18540.00
(Prevents milk and cream separation for 10 to 14 days)
1 x 100lt Separator @ R 5 750.00
(For excess cream take off and while at the same time, purifying and cleaning the milk from dust etc)
1 x Mini Chiller to chill 200lt drum of water@ R 9 760.00
(Chiller to chill 200lt drum of water, allowing to use 50lt batch as milk cool tank for evening milking)
1 x Chilled water transfer Pump @ R 1210.00
1 x 200lt Plastic Drum for water @ R 665.00
Total Outlay for Equipment, ex Vat: R 68 555.00
Total for Stock and Plant: R108 555.00
Add to this R20 000 to convert an existing space into a food grade acceptable area.
Capital redemption and interest over 5 years taken at 20% is around R2600/month.
Nett income per liter, selling at R20 per 2lt bottle should be no less than R7.00 per liter.
Average 70lt per day at the end of year 1, should yield a monthly income of around R15 000.00 of which R2000 per month can be set aside the 1st year for additional cows, allowing you to increase your herd to 8 by end of the year. In year 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 you allow 4 of your cows to calf, thus growing your herd.
By end of year 5, start-up capital have been redeemed and herd grown to around 18 cows of which no less than 14 should be in production, producing around 140+ liters of milk a day. Taken at current figure of R7 per liter, giving an income of around R30 000+ per month and a growing pension fund to the value of R 140 000+. Herd total including bull calves, should be around 24 and the bulls can be sold off. The above income figure only takes into account fresh milk, not the added value products produced such as cream, butter, yogurt, amasi and cheese.
Basically, every 5 years income and pension fund value can be doubled. The initial equipment can during this time be expanded to include a 200llt per hour in-line pasteurizer allowing you to use the batch for value added products only or a 100lt batch or even bigger, depending your market.
In essence the initial investment of R120 000.00 should yield an income of around R1 000 000 over the 5 year period while growing a pension fund value of R150 000+
Year 10, would see to a production around 400lt per day, taken only at R8 nett, giving close to R100 000 per month and a pension fund value of around R320 000.
One cannot for sure say which way things will turn out, however if one made this investment 10 years ago, a R90 000 monthly income is very relevant today.
This is just some food for thought on how to possibly get ahead in these tough times.
